Are are free downloads of anti-virus software (e.g.Kaspersky from download.cnet.com) as good as paid packages?

Chosen Answer:

The free downloads are not the paid package, understand that, they either have limited features or limited time
For example the Kaspersky download has all the features but it is for 30 days, then you need to get the full version

If you’re just using the anti-virus at hom, don’t bother paying for anything when the software is available free (and legal).

Both Kaspersky and AVAST Home Edition are free and excellent anti-virus. I prefer AVAST though.

the difference is mainly that the paid antivirus gets 24 hour online support – the free version doesn’t,

they both get the same virus definitions, at the same time,
support is available from malware removal forums for free
