I know that this wasn’t possible on older versions, but I checked the Kaspersky Upgrade site (http://www.kaspersky.com/upgrade) and it says that I can use my active license to use the newest version. My license is still valid works with the 2011 version – can I upgrade?

Yes you are right that Kaspersky do now allow you to upgrade to the latest version if your license key is still active. you will then have Kaspersky 2012 for the remainder of your 12 month license.

Of course you can. Your license is still valid so there should be no problems. If it is expired, you may uninstall KIS 2011 and install KIS 2012 but you will only get 30 days to try it. After that, you will need to buy the license key.
