It’s your connection. I’ve been using Kaspersky Internet Security for a few years and how fast the first update goes depends on the connection. My home connection is fast so it only takes a few minutes but I do remember when my Mom had some slow DSL service and it took a long time, maybe 30 minutes or more.

You probably need to start with a clean setup. Avast needs a special tool to completely remove all its traces:

It is recommended that you run both before you install your KIS2011.

You can use the license key for KIS2011 to activate the 2012 version. Just make sure that what you have is a KIS license key so it can only be used on a KIS product. In other words, you cannot use a KAV key to activate a KIS product or vice-versa.

Unlike the others Kasperski never lets it in. it quarantines it as soon as its detected and automatically deletes it. that’s just what I’m told though, I use it and even tried it on a few porn sights, works like a charm.

You should study the tests done to see which is better. Kaspersky was rated product of the year and some of the tests I looked at Kaspersky had quite a bit higher detection.
You can look at detection rates, removal rates and impact on performance.

Both products are good. Kaspersky scores much higher on removal of malware.
It’s better to research it yourself because everyone has their own product that they like and a lot of the better products get a bad rap for no good reason.
