Chosen Answer:
If I were paying for one then Kaspersky would be my choice. I dont know what machine you have but all security software can slow down your PC.

I run a dual-boot system.
Windows for three games.
Linux the rest of the time, like right now.
I have no use for software like that, thats a Windows issue.
My linux is faster on the ‘Net than Windows.
I am running Windows XP SP3 and I just removed Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 with 155 days remaining on my license. I got tired of fighting it. KIS 2011 is the worst security package I have ever used. I have been using Kaspersky for three years. The 2011 version has had two critical fixes and the latest version has had four updates.
It will slow down your computer if left to the default settings. You will need to change the ‘Idle Scan’ and/or the ‘Rootkit Scan’ settings. Some people have no problems using KIS 2011. I am now using Norton IS 2011. I have heard good things about it (Amazon) and decided to try it. I am not disappointed but your mileage may vary. Years ago I left Norton for Kaspersky because Norton was a pig. They have really done a good job on this latest version.
If you decide to buy and install Kaspersky 2011 go here and download the latest version available. The one you bought in a box may not be the lastest/greatest. Choose the product you want from the selection.
