I like AOL AntiVirusShield. Don’t let the name AOL fool you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)
And it updates 15 to 20 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.

AVG is good and Free
i think nortan is best …
AVG is not free any more. You will only get a Trial version at this point. But go ahead and try it, then install your Norton.
Good luck and Happy Computing!
AVG gives you protection for free users and Home Users. Also, you can try Avast Antivirus – Free edition. Both these softwares provide free virus definition updates. I’ve been using AVG and it works great.
AVG Free is very good, so is Avast! The AVG one is about to be replaced by an updated free version, NOT cancelled as some seem to think! If you download it now, they will tell you when the update is happening.
By the way, never have two a/v’s running at the same time, they’ll fight.
aol and aim
nothing in life is free
these products get good reviews, but only on basis they are free
personally, the paid for bunch are all much of a muchness
but norton tends to get get more of a slating as does mcafee
f-secure?
either way do a search for OEM, then it’s cheap as chips
pay for it would be my advice OEM!

i use antivir and would recommend it, run it for 3 years without any problems
You could also try clamwin. It is an open source antivirus.
http://www.clamwin.com/
It does pretty well, and since it is open source, you never have to worry about them deciding to charge for it.
well better if u install quick heal its a goof antivirus proghram or better if u download mccafee itll give u a firewall protection too. and will update itself when connected to the net. its good on graphics too
Nobody has mentioned Avast home edition, I have used it for over 4 problem free years.
get rid of norton.
AVG is excellent…..
I found this site has a good list of free antivirus programs. http://www.basicspywaretips.com
Yeah AVG is goof for a free antivirus, Kaspersky is supposed to be the best just now but they have a free online scanner you can use.
you can get avg from http://free.grisoft.com
As well as this there is also avast from http://www.avast.com, but I find it slows my pc down too much, and another called antivir but I havent used it in years.
I would avoid norton if possible because a lot of people have triuble trying to get rid of it.
Go for AVG it is FREE
avg is good i have used it for a year now and had no problems
AVG is free and can be downloaded at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
As for Norton I wouldn’t touch it net even if they paid me to, cos there programs always drain resources and it has more holes in it than swish cheese also in general slows down any PC it’s run on but that is in my experience as a PC tech
most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:
